About The Brands
Nursing CE Central provides online courses and certificates for nurses that need to complete continuing education contact hours. Nurses are required to consistently renew specific courses and hours to keep their nursing license.
Slone NCLEX was an online study platform for the NCLEX® exam. All nursing students in the country are required to pass this exam to receive their official nursing license. While the original branding and website design were outsourced, there were new widgets and elements that needed to be created. The user dashboard also had to be revamped to account for new functionalities being added.
Lastly, Slone Labs was a business concept that ultimately never came to fruition, however a logo design was requested in the event it would launch.
All videos shown are screen recordings of high-fidelity prototypes created in Figma.

Design System
While the logo could not be changed, the overall branding and design system were adjusted. New typefaces were implemented along with a typographic hierarchy structure. A WCAG-compliant color system was also created, with web components being redesigned to follow the new system and modern design trends.

Homepage Redesign
The Problem:
One major issue with the previous homepage design was the content above the fold was too cluttered. With too many elements trying to get the attention of the user, no clear focal point could be found.Further down the page, elements meant to promote the product were not eye-catching. Based on session recordings, users would scroll by these elements without stopping.
The Solution:
The redesign had the following changes: — De-clutter content above the fold to create clear focal points, while ensuring two of the company’s unique value propositions remained visible across all responsive screen sizes. — Created more visually engaging promotional elements, while updating the page overall to follow the modernized design system.
The Results:
The A/B test, conducted in VWO, resulted in the redesign achieving the following improvements:
%
Increase in conversion rate overall
%
Increase in users going to the checkout page overall
%
Decrease in bounce rate
%
Increase in conversion rate for mobile users
%
Increase in conversion rate for desktop users

Template Page Redesign
The Problem:
Through session recordings, it became apparent that users across all 50 landing pages that utilized this template had to scroll significantly further down the page to see the most important piece of information about the product: does Nursing CE Central have the courses I require? The previous section displaying courses did not reflect specific requirements each user needed, and some linked to archived courses.
The Solution:
The redesign had the following changes: — Adjusted the layout overall. The content known to be the most important now appears right below the hero, above the fold. — Created a new module to represent the courses: 1. Included the requirements each user needed. 2. Displayed courses the product has that match those requirements. — Incorporated official organization logos to instill confidence in new users.

User Dashboard Redesign
The Problem:
After discussing user friction points with the customer support team, one of the most common complaints was that users could not find where to access certificates they received for completed courses. There was also no clear way for users to see their payment information, membership level, and their required contact hour status. Some states require users to submit their contact hours through a third-party called CE Broker. Previously, the support team did this for them - however doing so would cause a backlog of support tickets as there tended to be issues. These issues were due to user error and/or CE Broker’s API failing.
The Solution:
The redesign had the following changes: — Redesigned how courses appeared in the dashboard, now allowing users to directly view/download their certificates in the course listing. — Added a module dedicated to keeping track of required contact hours completed, along with providing users the ability to directly submit hours to their specific Board Of Nursing (BON). — Developed a structured user settings system, that included different tabs for: 1. Completed courses, contact hours and certificates. 2. User information such as their password and nursing license. 3. Payment and membership settings. 4. CE Broker submissions, which only appear for users that are licensed in a CE Broker state. — Within the CE Broke submissions tab, users now have the ability to re-submit certificates themselves - helping reduce the influx of customer support tickets while adding convenience value.

Conference Booth Design
The Task:
Collaborate with booth vendors to design a 8’x10’ booth that promotes two different brands, while feeling as one cohesive system. Copy was provided, but needed to be emphasized due to limited space. Design files were created in Adobe Illustrator and followed printing best practices for seamless handoff and printing for the vendor. The conference was the ANCC Magnet & Pathway Conference, which is attended by thousands of nurses, medical professionals and health/wellness businesses for networking and company growth.
The Solution:
After researching prior conferences to gauge competition that paid for similar sections, the design contained the following: — Create a true booth and not just a table and backdrop to stand out from the rest. — Combined wall layouts and lighting elements from booth vendor pre-made layouts to create a more custom option for Nursing CE Central and a sister brand. — Designed a wave element that wraps around every wall of the booth, catching the eye from all angles.

Widgets
The Task:
Design 3 widgets and ensure they can be accessed on every question in the platform: — Lab Values — Calculator — Notes
The Solution:
Nesting all three options in one widget that stays stickied on the edge of the screen, that way it is always accessible regardless of the question. The Notes widget is linked to the question bank, so users can easily find a specific note they took.

How should you treat a patient if their blood pressure is 160/90, with a heart rate of 130 beats per minute?
Blood Pressure, Pulse Oxygen, Temperature, Pain, Heart Rate and Respiratory Rate
Blood Pressure:
Normal: 120/80
Low = Hypotension (Think volume issue and fall risk)
High = Hypertension (Think stroke risk)
Pulse Oxygen:
Normal: >95%
Low = Assess airway, apply O2, obtain ABG
Temperature:
Normal: 37 C (98.6 F)
High/low = infection – assess client, treat underlying causes
Pain:
ALWAYS important
Anything more than 5 considered urgent
Respiratory Rate:
Normal
12-20 respirations per min
Low
bradypnea
High
tachypnea
Change in LOC, agitation, new confusion, irritability
Assess O2 often because brain is deprived of oxygen
Assess client, if oxygenation level is low, assess airway, apply O2, obtain ABG
Heart Rate:
Normal
60-100 beats per minute
Low
bradycardia
High
tachycardia
Assess client first with any VS change – with heart rate changes assess client, obtain ECG and intervene – if unresponsive/pulseless
CPR!

Normal: 37 C (98.6 F)
High/low = infection – assess client, treat underlying causes
Pain:
ALWAYS important
Anything more than 5 considered urgent
Respiratory Rate:
Normal
12-20 respirations per min
Low
bradypnea
High
tachypnea
Change in LOC, agitation, new confusion, irritability
Assess O2 often because brain is deprived of oxygen
Assess client, if oxygenation level is low, assess airway, apply O2, obtain ABG
Heart Rate:
Normal
60-100 beats per minute
Low
bradycardia
High
tachycardia
Assess client first with any VS change – with heart rate changes assess client, obtain ECG and intervene – if unresponsive/pulseless
CPR!

User Dashboard
The Task:
The following changes were requested based on direct user feedback from a private beta test that used the original, outsourced design: — Make the data easier to understand, it isn’t clear what the metrics mean. — Provide more ways to begin studying from a specific question category. — It is not easy to tell how many total questions were actually completed.
The Solution:
While the framework of the original design could not change, each module was individually changed by doing the following: — Added a progress bar to keep track of questions completed, along with copy adding clarity as to when certain exams will unlock. — Main center module: 1. Reoriented to be horizontal instead of vertical. 2. Added the category name above each category score, also enabled the ability to begin/resume each category next to the name. 3. Developed animation that would begin when the page first loaded. 4. Added a dedicated button to ensure there were multiple ways to begin. 5. Created copy to help clarify what the percentage metrics mean. — New functionality added: 1. The ability to access and play videos. 2. Notes widget now has a dedicated module that is connected to notes you take on a question.

User Dashboard Redesign
The Problem:
At one point, a decision was made to prevent users from being able to see the study platform unless they put in their credit card information for a 4-day free trial. Conversion rates proceeded to decline as users did not want to provide payment information for a product they could not access first.
The Solution:
Designed a new checkout page that featured an animation displaying various screens of the purchased experience, that way users could have a visual sense of the product offering. Oversized typography was utilized to emphasize the three unique value propositions of the product as well.

Slone Labs
Logo Design
The Task:
The CEO of Nursing CE Central considered starting a new company called Slone Labs, which would function as an angel investor for startup businesses in the medical industry. An added challenge was the logo design needed to be finished in one week.
The Design:
DNA is the foundation of who we are, with the double helix structure serving as the building blocks for life and growth. That said, it felt fitting for it to serve as the primary mark for a company that would provide capital to aid in the growth of new medical businesses. The double helix is angled, with one DNA strand emphasized to represent the letter “S” and function as a line graph appearing to show significant growth over time.
